LocationLulea University of Technology's main campus is located approximately three miles from downtown Lulea. The city center of Lulea is located on a peninsula where the Lule River flows into the Gulf of Bothnia. Founded in 1621, the city is the administrative center for Sweden's most northern province. It has a lively cultural life and is the home of nationally elite hockey and basketball teams.
The School of Music is located in the town of Pitea, approximately 30 miles south of Lulea. Due to its marvelous beaches and sunny summer climate, Pitea is nick-named the northern Riviera. Music plays an important role in Pitea's cultural life, which includes an annual music festival.
In the Lulea/Pitea area, sailing is a popular outdoor activity, as is cross-country and downhill skiing at one of the area's two nearby ski slopes. In addition, the mountains of Lappland with marvelous hiking trails and ski resorts are less than six hours away by car. Stockholm is approximately an hour away by air.

ISEP students are encouraged to join the annual August orientation period planned for 1st year students. Intensive Swedish lessons are given to international students. At the same time, math & physics lessons are given to incoming 1st year engineering students & a business administration preparation course is given to business administration students & an education preparation course is given to education students. During this time, upper division students arrange a complete program for all newcomers including orientation to student life. During the orientation period, exchange students are placed in groups with Swedish students led by "faddrar," student mentors. At the start of the academic year, each exchange student is assigned a "faddrar," student mentor, who has expressed an interest in introducing international students into Swedish society. The Fall orientation starts with 2 days of information for exchange students only! During the Orientation there are a number of evening parties, the party fee is about 600 SEK for all the parties; you can't buy tickets to individual parties. The party fee is not included in ISEP benefits. Orientations period is included in the period of benefits.

ISEP-Exchange programs allow students to participate in reciprocal exchanges with students at ISEP member institutions worldwide, while paying their home university tuition. Students attending US universities that are ISEP-Exchange members are eligible to apply for these programs at other international ISEP-Exchange member universities. Chances of placement vary by location.
ISEP-Direct programs allow students to enroll directly in a host institution abroad, instead of exchanging places with another student. Chances of placement are typically excellent for qualified applicants and some sites offer special academic programs and excursions. Students attending US universities that are either ISEP-Exchange members or ISEP-Direct members can participate in ISEP-Direct programs abroad.
