Marketing for Social Change: The Uganda Project will examine the geographical, historical, political, and economic antecedents of extreme poverty in Africa, and it will explore potential solutions from foreign aid and nonprofit work to women's empowerment and social enterprise. Moreover, the course will examine the relationships between various social and environmental issues such as poverty, environmental conservation, women's empowerment, and other cultural topics. One of the highlights of the course is that we will travel to Uganda over spring break to immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture and beautiful natural environment of the country. Specifically, we will visit Murchison Falls National Park to see the incredible wildlife and biodiversity, we'll meet with women from BeadforLife who rose out of extreme poverty by starting their own microbusinesses (and we'll get to work with them in their businesses for a day), and we'll meet with entrepreneurs from the Unreasonable Institute who are using business to solve major social and environmental problems. Upon returning to Regis, we will be able to share our stories, and the story of Africa, with the rest of the Regis Community.
